An Indonesian fisherman who feared that he would be killed by tree-like growths covering his body has been given hope of recovery by an American doctor - and Vitamin A.

Dede, now 35, baffled medical experts when warty "roots" began growing out of his arms and feet after he cut his knee in a teenage accident.

Sacked from his job and deserted by his wife, Dede has been raising his two children - now in their late teens - in poverty, resigned to the fact that local doctors had no cure for his condition.

To make ends meet he even joined a local "freak show", parading in front of a paying audience alongside victims of other peculiar diseases.

Although supported by his extended family, he was often a target of abuse and ridicule in his rural fishing village.

But now an American dermatology expert who flew out to Dede's home village south of the capital Jakarta claims to have identified his condition, and proposed a treatment that could transform his life.

The world famous tenor Marcello Bedoni made a cow concert invited by the italian ice cream maker Antonio Federici who believes the animals will produce a creamer milk.

Woman bites lover's penis off in car crash

A boss and his secretary who were having an affair saw their romantic tryst interrupted in a wince-inducing manner - after a car crash led her to accidentally bite his penis off.

According to reports in China Press and Sin Chew Daily, the 30-year-old woman was performing oral sex on her boss in a car in a Singapore park, when the car was struck by a reversing van.

The impact caused her to bite the man's penis off.

Facial transplant

Connie Culp was shot in the face by her husband in a failed murder-suicide in September 2004 outside a bar in Ohio. He survived as well and was convicted in 2005 of aggravated attempted-murder with a 7-year prison sentence. Culp forgave her husband at the sentencing and said she will be waiting when he gets out of prison.

The shotgun blast shattered her nose, cheeks, the roof of her mouth and an eye. She underwent 30 operations prior to the face transplant on December 10, 2008. Surgeon Maria Siemionow led a team of doctors in a 22-hour operation which replaced 80 percent of Culp's face with the face from another woman who had recently died.

I don't want to think what's gonna happen when this become more common in the surgery practice...

One-year-old Henry was caught with a sock in his mouth by owner Louise Brandon, 40 — then she found 50 others stashed behind his bed. Mum-of-one Louise is now posting leaflets to locals in Loughborough, Leics, to try to find their owners.


She said: “He must be snatching them from the lines. It’s really embarrassing.”

He really don't like his leg

David Openshaw, 28, suffers from body integrity identity disorder (BIID), which makes victims seek amputation of healthy limbs.

Surgeons refused to remove his right leg. So he plunged it into a bucket of dry ice for hours until it became so damaged it had to be removed below the knee. And David, who says he “hated” the leg since he was four, is delighted with his false limb.

He said: “The excruciating pain from the dry ice was worth it.”



The chicken factory worker claimed he is now much happier and the amputation has even improved his love life with Joanne McWilliam.She said: “We’re closer than ever.” But David, of Sydney, Australia, insisted he did not want to damage his other limbs.

Marc Stephens watched the videos as a precaution when his wife Jo started to feel some discomfort.

Four hours later, his wife went into labour and started giving birth before an ambulance could arrive at their home in Redruth.

"I Googled how to deliver a baby, watched a few videos and basically swotted up," Mr Stephens told the BBC.

Jo Stephens said they had planned a home birth, but not quite in this manner.

Sculptures of chewing gum

For the past ten years, artist Marizio Savini has been making sculptures from thousands of pieces of chewed bubble gum, and sells his creations for as much as £40,000 each.

His sculptures include a life-size buffalo, a grizzly bear and businessmen doing gymnastics.

Why chewing gum?

"…because it seemed to me an amazingly versatile material compared to those used by the traditional arts such as painting…

"I believe that in my work … this material is redeemed and acquires a capacity and it has an expressive dignity of its own. I work the chewing gum when it is warm and manipulate it with a knife just like some traditional material like clay.

The most important step is the fixing of the sculptures with formaldehyde and antibiotic."

A tree inside his lung

A fir tree has been found growing inside a man's lung by surgeons who were operating on him for suspected cancer.

The tree, measuring 5cm, was discovered by Russian doctors when they opened up Artyom Sidorkin, 28, to remove what they thought was a tumout.

Medical staff believe that Mr Sidorkin somehow inhaled a seed, which later sprouted into a small fir tree inside his lung.

The patient had complained of extreme pain in his chest and had been coughing up blood. Doctors were convinced he had cancer.

'We were 100 per cent sure,' said surgeon Vladimir Kamashev from Izhevsk in the Urals. 'We did X-rays and found what looked exactly like a tumour. I had seen hundreds before, so we decided on surgery.'

Before removing the major part of the man's lung, the surgeon investigated the tissue taken in a biopsy.

'I thought I was hallucinating,' said Dr Kamashev. 'I asked my assistant to have a look: "Come and see this - we've got a fir tree here".

'He nodded in shock. I blinked three times as I was sure I was seeing things.'

They believed the coughing of blood was caused by the tiny pine needles piercing blood capillaries. 'It was very painful. But to be honest I did not feel any foreign object inside me,' said Mr Sidorkin. 'I'm so relieved it's not cancer.'

The report appeared in popular tabloid Komsomolskaya Gazeta, and was picked up by Russian news service Novosti.

Giant Snake

A NATIONAL PARK in Indonesia is displaying a 15-metre python - making it the longest ever captured - that was revered as a tribal ruler and has a huge appetite for dogs.

The huge, dark-coloured male snake has a diameter of 85 centimetres, weighs 447 kg and is 14.85 metres long, according to keepers of an animal exhibition at the Curugsewu park in the small Central Java town of Kendal.

Snake handler Imam Darmanto said the nameless serpent likes to gulp down dogs.

'This snake swallows up dogs. In a month, it can eat around five dogs,' he said.

According to the Guinness World Records, the longest discovered snake was also a reticulated python from Indonesia. It was 10 metres long when found in Sulawesi island in 1912.

Darmanto found the reticulated python last year, but it took months to get permission from the villagers on Sumatra island, where it had been caught and kept in captivity by villagers, who revered the creature, to bring it to Java.

'It was seen as the ruler of the Kubu tribe. So, we had to go by the book and the tourism authorities had to ask for it,' Darmanto said.
